Metal Core PCB is circuit board manufactured with metal core or substrate copper clad laminates. Usually “MCPCB is used instead of Metal Core PCB, or Metal Core Printed Circuit Board. There are many different names of Metal Core PCB, such as Metal PCB, Metal Base PCB, Metal Backed PCB, Metal Clad PCB, metal substrate PCB and Metal Core Board and so on.
The most common metal used for MCPCB manufacturer is Aluminum core, Copper or steel alloy. Aluminum is with good heat transferring and dissipation ability, cost is lower; Copper has better heat sink performances but more expensive. Steel core PCB include normal steel core PCB and stainless steel core PCB. Steel core PCB is more rigid than aluminum core PCB or copper core PCB, but lower in thermal conductivity.
Generally, aluminum substrate is the most economic option considering thermal conductivity, rigidness, and cost. So, the most used metal core PCB material is aluminum core CCL. Usually metal core PCB (MCPCB) is Aluminum Core PCB. Copper(Cu) Core PCB, Steel Core PCB, or Stainless steel core PCB is used if customers required to MCPCB suppliers.
Sometimes people use“MCPCB��? instead of full name Metal Core PCB, or Metal Core Printed Circuit Board. Also use different words names the core/base/substrate, can use different name of Metal Core PCB, Metal PCB, Metal Base PCB, Metal Backed circuit board, Metal Clad PCB, metal substrate PCB or Metal Core Board and so on.
According to layer structures of metal core PCB, MCPCB is mainly including: Single Layer MCPCB, COB MCPCB, Two Layers MCPCB, Double Sided MCPCB, Multilayer MCPCB, etc.
MCPCBs are used instead of traditional FR4 or CEM-3 PCBs because of better ability in heat sinking.
